Ease of use is everything

4 min read  •  June 13, 2014
As many of you have already noticed, Stackfield has visually and technically developed during the last week. For this reason we will provide a brief outline of the changes:

Colors for folders

Organize your communication in folders.
The most obvious change first: You can now individually assign colors to folders. Stacks, which are organized in folders, are receiving a color-code so that a quick classification to the folder / project is possible. Depending on the feedback, we will expand the color palette even more.

Projects are named Stacks – again.

Workspaces for collaboration and communication.
Users of the first hour know the name already. We have decided to name the workspaces within Stackfield Stacks again – this is mainly because the bulk of the users has never deviated from the term Stack and still called them like that. The feedback was incredibly clear in this matter. In addition, the expression projects represents a limitation of the application areas, since you can use a workspace only for communication or task management if you want to. Therefore, we change it back to Stack – as a collective term for communication, collaboration, task management, notebook, or for whatever you want to use a Stack.

New position the user administration

Edit your profile settings.
The button, with which you can access your personal settings or invite colleagues, has been moved from the upper right of the screen to the lower left. Why? Stackfield is structured in four stages – the first column on the left contains all global aspects of the platform. Here everything is merged and settings for all stacks (= workspaces - only for the record) can be conducted. The second column is used to select the right Stack and thus goes a step deeper. Further to the right the contents of a Stack are mapped. This is where the teamwork and communication actually take place. In the fourth column, the Stacks can be optimized highly granular and the display options are selected at this point. For this reason we expulsed the position of the user administration from the third / fourth column, because this is the area for the content of a Stack. We must also get used to it, however, we consider the step as very appropriate.

Favourites always on top

Add often used group chats to your favorites.
The favorites have also been revised. If Stacks are marked as favorites, they can be positioned on top of the Stack-list using the filter option within the search bar. Through this you keep your favorites always in view and do not have to search for them.

Collapsing of the Stack-list

Upload different files to a Stack to share them with your colleagues.
Especially for smaller displays every available pixel counts. In addition, we heard from some users that they rarely change the stack, which is why we have now implemented a new feature: A click on the hide Button above the Stack-list will collapse it. This increases the available surface area significantly.

Stack settings are more easily accessible

Manage your Apps to adapt each Stack to your personal collaboration needs.
The Stack-settings are now located at the former place of the user administration. As mentioned above this location is more intuitive for this button and it makes other technical and visual enhancements possible.

Easier communication with our support-team

Questions? Just contact our support.
After a short test phase of the live support via Stacks, this feature is now available to every user of Stackfield. Located next to the new user administration you will find a button for the support – which will open a new Stack with our support-team. The use of support-Stacks clearly facilitates the communication. (By the way: We are very interested about how you are using Stackfield and which features would help you to improve your communication and teamwork. Just use the support-Stack to provide us your feedback!)

Refreshing a module

Manage your tasks and stay organized while working with large groups.
Changes within a module will now be displayed through a number at the top of a module. One click on the tab of the active module will refresh it and retrieve the latest data.

Invitations for colleagues and friends

Invite your colleagues to communicate and to collaborate with you.
We are delighted that Stackfield is receiving great support by a lot of people. To facilitate inviting and sharing of Stackfield even more we have simplified the invitation function. You can now invite colleagues without typing the whole email address every time. In addition, you now have the possibility to share a personalized link. With the new statistics you can keep track of accepted and open invitations – so you can see which invited member of a team isn’t registered yet.

Faster creation of tasks or appointments

Easily create new tasks by clicking on the plus icon.
A flash of inspiration and little time? Then just go to the global overview of tasks and appointments with your mouse. That will trigger a plus icon to appear. Clicking on this opens a dialog box through which you can easily create a new task or event. This will save you from searching for the right Stack and therefore will save some clicks.

We will keep you informed about changes through our blog and notifications in the future. As mentioned, we are looking forward to receive your feedback.
